Newcastle is centrally located on the NSW coast, an easy 2-hour drive north of Sydney on the M1 Motorway, while New England Highway and the Golden Highway link Newcastle to western NSW.

Newcastle Airport is based at Williamtown, 30 minutes from Newcastle and 15 minutes to Stockton. It’s serviced by Jetstar and Virgin Australia with daily services from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ballina, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. The airport offers direct shuttle transfers, car hire and taxi services.

As part of the City Rail network, Newcastle is serviced by frequent daily return rail services from Sydney. CountryLink connects to Brisbane, country NSW, Canberra and Melbourne via Broadmeadow station. Travel time by rail from Sydney is approximately 2½ hours via train.

The Great Australian Pub Fishing Competition is also partnering with travel specialists to assist teams with travel arrangements, including from New Zealand.

For those bringing trailable boats, there are four boat ramps servicing the Harbour – most popular being the one adjacent to Carrington Bridge and the other accessing the Hunter River at Stockton North. Limited overnight berthing will be available at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (

Additional trailer parking space has been set aside in Pat Jordon Oval at Tully Street, Carrington, adjacent to Carrington Boat Ramp. Trailer security is advised as storage is at the owner’s risk.
